The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Ministry of Culture,
receives annually $100 million of government funding generated through Ontario's
charity casino initiative.
In 2003, the Lake Nipissing Partner's in Conservation received a $72,000 grant from the Ontario
Trillium Foundation to construct a boardwalk and observation tower in the cranberry
marsh area of Callander Bay. The purpose of this project is to allow area citizens an
opportunity to observe (hopefully nesting) swans from a distance.

The moneys are also to be
used for educational purposes (pamphlets, signage, website) in order to educate the people
about the presence of the swans with a view to protecting them from misidentification and
potential death from duck hunters.
