Bill Plumstead

A.W. (Bill) Plumstead was born in Toronto, 1933. He attended Upper Canada College, and then Western University, where he graduated with a B.A., in 1955. It was during this time that Bill met and married Niki, and together they raised three children while Bill earned his M.A. and Ph D. at Rochester University.

Bill has taught at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

In 1976, Bill moved his family to Lake Temagami, Canada, where he became a tourist lodge and marina owner/operator. Bill continued to teach part-time at Nipissing and Laurentian Universities, while running his business full-time. Bill was the first recipient of the Nipissing University Award for Excellence in Part-time Teaching. Bill returned to full-time teaching at Nipissing University in 1991.

He wrote his fist novel (Loon) during the summer of 1991.

That Beautiful Somehwere, a film by Robert Budreau with screenplay by Bill Plumstead based on that novel, was released in May, 2007.
