Cross-country Skiing

Cross-country skiing has become a way of life in Ontario's Near North. Throughout the north, cross-country ski trails thread through some of the most beautiful terrain and majestic forests.

  • Trails vary in length from under a kilometre to as far as you want to go, and vary in challenge from novice to expert.
  • Snow conditions remain remarkably constant throughout the season, and it is possible to ski right through until the end of March.
  • The Almaguin Highlands is a cross-country paradise.
  • Within the City of North Bay, there are a number of areas to enjoy cross-country skiing: The North Bay Nordic Ski Club has over 40 kilometres of trail; 5 km of groomed trail are available at the College Education Centre; Pinewood Park Motor Inn maintains marked and groomed trails.
  • Marten River, just north of North Bay, offers kilometres of cross-country skiing, and a number of comfortable lodges.
  • Temagami hosts kilometres of cross-country trails that are well groomed and signed.
  • In the Sturgeon Falls area, the West Nipissing Cross-Country Ski Club offers over 20 kilometres of scenic trails.
  • In the Mattawa area, cross-country skiing facilities are provided at Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park. On site trails and accommodations are also available at the Mattawa Golf and Ski Club.
