The Forgotten Trails
Nestled between the fun loving Muskokas in the south and the remote wilderness of the north, the Almaguin Highlands have long remained a mystery to the rest of Ontario. Click Here to learn more.

The Old Nipissing Road
The Nipissing Road is The Ontario Ghost Trail. It was once home to many settlements of hopeful pioneers, now is guarded by their abandoned log cabins and weathered barns. The road runs through the centre of the Parry Sound District between highways 69 and 11. It can be reached on any cross highway including 141, 518, 520, 124, 522 and 534. It winds along 120 km of gravel road, bush trail and paved highway (#510) from Rosseau on Highway 141 to Nipissing on Hwy. 534. Parts of the road surface are now paved with tar and stone. This tour begins in Rousseau, but you can start it any place along the trail. CLICK HERE to learn more.

Ontario ParksAlgonquin Provincial Park
Pursue unexcelled opportunities for
outdoor adventure and education

Algonquin Park is the oldest and most famous provincial park in Ontario and one of the largest in Canada. Algonquin is just three or four hours away from Toronto or Ottawa, and stretches across 7,725 square kilometres of wild and beautiful lakes and forests, bogs and rivers, cliffs and beaches - a canoeist's and camper's paradise as far as the eye can see.

Hear the call of the loon echoing from rocky lakeshores, gaze at the sunset silhouetting a solitary pine, and watch a beaver forging a rippling wedge across a glassy pond. A fish splashes, a moose raises its massive head to stare at passing paddlers, and high above a windy cliff, a croaking raven surveys a landscape of lakes, forests, streams and bogs from horizon to horizon. At nightfall, two canoeists look up from their flickering campfire and drink in the wild music of wolves wafting over the ancient hills. This is Algonquin Provincial Park.

The Polar Bear Express
A rail excursion to an Arctic adventure

Polar Bear ExpressWhat is it about a train excursion that always seems to put its passengers in the mood for adventure? Is it the exotic locations? Or is it the intimacy with the other passengers on board? Whatever it is, train enthusiasts are born the first moment they ride the rails.

The Polar Bear Express keeps with this time honoured tradition of exciting train excursions by taking its passengers on a journey to the edge of the Arctic. The train departs Cochrane for an incredible 186 mile journey to the Arctic Tidewater at Moosanee.

Travel along the "old highways" of the fur trade, historic rivers such as the Abitibi and the Moose. Your trip on the Polar Bear Express will take you to a sparsely populated land of forests, tranquil lakes and muskeg.

As you tour Moosanee, you will begin to understand the realities of this frontier community. Take a freighter canoe across the Moose River to Moose Factory, a relic of the history founded more than 300 years ago by the Hudson's Bay Company. During your train trip, enjoy the on-board services including dinners, snacks and the entertainment car.
